As a little fresh goose, I finished my undergraduate degree in business design in Taiwan, and my graduate student became a young child studying in the UK, and turned to information interaction. Although the academic background seems to be able to play, in fact, student projects are often overloaded with celestial energy and are all metaphysical. In the wildly growing design career of the past, I dipped one foot into brand advertising while the other dangled in information visualization and art curation.
Two years ago, I never thought about stepping into the Internet industry (I thought I would become an artist who became a Buddha on the spot), but a year ago, I had neither Internet internship experience nor industry-related works, and I was airdropped overseas. After I submitted a visual design resume, Tencent allowed me the first formal interview in my life, and it became my first official job.
This article is divided into three major sections according to the school recruitment timeline last year (2017). Reading the full text will take about half the time of the king. Please take it as needed. The autumn recruitment cycle is about one month Latest Mailing Database from the start to the announcement of the results. And I, about ten days before the application deadline, suddenly found out about this. At that time, I was not sure whether to return to China or not, and I didn't even understand what the school recruitment itself was. Looking back now, maybe everything at that time could have been better.
1. Create an accurate resume + portfolio
All beginnings are hard. I actually refuse to write a resume. How can a thin A4 paper be enough to cover the life of a young man? Even if it is double-sided, it is not enough. But the reality is that the interviewer may not even have time to read a piece of paper. Therefore, no matter how legendary your experience is, the content of your resume must be precise, and the highlights of your experience must be displayed in the front and controlled within two pages of A4 paper . Although the job-hunting information at the application stage is entered by the system, try to prepare electronic resumes and paper documents with you during the interview. In addition, a resume represents the designer's own aesthetic quality, and the principles of Gestalt must be kept in mind, and always have compassion for the vision of the interviewer and Miss HR.
For designers, the most important thing is the portfolio. As a student with a complex background, at the time, I was also apprehensive about my indefinable work at various stages. How to control the proportion of works? Should concept works and practice works be placed? How to grasp the quality of the packaging of the works? Anxious you may have been eager to collect all kinds of mockups at this moment, but wait a minute! Portfolio is in the bone but not the skin.
Before in-depth packaging of each work, we need to ask two strategic questions about the overall planning of the portfolio:
What is the positioning of each work in the portfolio? (Responsible for appearance? Responsible for professionalism?)
What aspect of your value does each work reflect? What is the priority? (Business level, innovation ability, dialectical thinking, personal characteristics, etc.)
The precise positioning of the works is actually a strict control of the number of works. The time for the interviewer to read and defend on the spot is very limited . It is enough to prepare 3-4 core works with high integrity . If you are worried that your portfolio is too small to live up to your talents, you can also use the online portfolio to supplement the diversity of the project.
ISUX launched the first online portfolio selection of the original museum this year, so that goose treasures can add, delete, modify and check their own masterpieces at any time, solving the two major problems of the form of the portfolio and the number of works at one time. Compressing PDF at the expense of image quality? If it does not exist, each pixel original museum is precisely reserved for you.
